With part-time study alongside

You can work or volunteer for 20+ hours a week as long as you’re also in part-time education or training. Great if you want to build experience and independence straight away.

Is this option right for you?

Assessment is often exam-based, with papers taken during or at the end of a two-year course.

You enjoy learning in a structured classroom setting

You feel comfortable in a classroom-type environment, where lessons follow a timetable and subjects are taught by specialist teachers.

If you’re ready to step into the world of work but still want to keep learning, an apprenticeship could be the right choice. You’ll be employed, earn a wage, and work towards a recognised qualification — all while gaining hands-on experience.

Is this option right for you?

Apprenticeships combine real work with study, so you’ll need to balance both. You’ll be employed and paid, while also working towards a qualification.

You want to earn while you learn

You’ll get a wage, paid holiday, and on-the-job training alongside classroom or online learning.

You prefer practical, hands-on experience

If you like learning by doing and want to develop skills directly in the workplace, an apprenticeship could suit you.

You already have an idea of your career path

Apprenticeships are career-focused, so you’ll be building skills in a specific area right from the start.

  • Volunteering with charities, community groups or local organisations
  • Traineeships to build experience and prepare for apprenticeships or jobs
