What is life like at Camden Future Talent?
Starting out in the workplace – whether through paid or unpaid work experience, an internship, or an apprenticeship – offers a practical and hands-on introduction to working life. Each route brings unique benefits: unpaid work experience can offer flexibility and insight into different roles; internships often focus on specific projects and skill-building; while apprenticeships combine paid employment with structured learning to achieve a recognised qualification.
These vocational pathways differ from staying on at college or university, where the focus is more academic and theoretical. While both routes can lead to successful careers, vocational experiences help build confidence, develop real-world skills and gain clarity about your future, often accelerating your journey towards fulfilling, long-term employment.
Many of our service users move into full-time roles with their employers, advance to higher-level apprenticeships, or continue into higher education. We offer a highly practical, supportive and empowering route for those who want to develop skills while making meaningful strides in their chosen career.
What facilities do we offer?
We provide access to a monthly information session held at the council and an online portal where young people can search and apply for opportunities. For those who successfully access work experience, internship or apprenticeship, the facilities available will depend on the employer and the nature of the role. Details of each opportunity will be clearly outlined in advance. Work environments vary – from large corporate offices to smaller, more informal settings. We help young people navigate these options and find opportunities that suit their goals and circumstances.
How are participants supported and included?
Camden Future Talent creates both short and long-term practical opportunities to gain skills, experience and confidence in the workplace. The service connects people with meaningful work experience placements, internships and apprenticeships in a range of industry sectors.
The team offer guidance tailored to the needs of the individual. This includes support to search for a suitable placement and navigate the competitive recruitment process, as well as managing the demands of work and/or study. They work closely with employers to ensure participants are well supported in their placements and can access specialist support services and/or training where required. For those with additional needs or care-experienced backgrounds, priority support is offered and reasonable adjustments are implemented to remove barriers to success.
Camden Future Talent links into Camden’s wider youth employment strategy, including the Young Talent Guarantee and supported internships for those with SEND. Together, these initiatives provide a strong foundation to help Camden’s young people step confidently into the world of work.
What are the entry requirements?
Specific entry requirements differ from role to role, so always check each job advert for full details.
For many of our roles, specific qualifications are not required. However, in the case of our apprenticeship opportunities, applicants without certificates in English and maths will need to complete an online assessment to ensure they meet the minimum requirements.
If you do not meet the minimum requirements for a particular role, Camden Future Talent team will recommend other opportunities that may be more suitable, or advise on where you can access skills training to progress to the required level.
