What is life like at Maria Fidelis?

Life at Maria Fidelis Catholic School Sixth Form is both academically ambitious and supportive, offering students the chance to excel in a nurturing yet challenging environment. Students are taught by highly qualified subject specialists who provide not only strong teaching but also personalised support to help every student achieve their best. With a strong focus on traditional A Levels alongside vocational pathways, students can pursue a wide range of interests, from sciences and humanities to creative and applied subjects.

Community is at the heart of sixth form life. Students, whether joining from Maria Fidelis or other schools, are welcomed into a friendly, inclusive environment where they are encouraged to become active members of the school. The sixth form team provides guidance, while students are also empowered to organise and participate in a wide variety of activities, building their confidence, leadership skills, and broader outlook.

Enrichment opportunities play a major role at Maria Fidelis. Students can take part in sports clubs, debating, film, drama and study groups, as well as partnerships with major organisations such as Deloitte, Google and Eurostar. Regular visiting speakers and trips, including university visits, further enrich their experience and prepare them for life beyond school.

Student support is another strength. Dedicated tutors ensure academic and personal wellbeing, while the bursary scheme helps those facing financial hardship to access sixth form life fully. With a central London location, excellent transport links, and strong connections to higher education providers, Maria Fidelis offers students a unique blend of academic excellence, personal care and opportunity.

How are students supported and included?

Our sixth form team is extensive and dedicated to helping you get the best out of your studies. We are proud of our pastoral system, which ensures that students are known and supported as individuals, working with organisations such as the Catholic Children’s Society and XLP, so that students’ pastoral needs can be supported where needed. There is also a bursary scheme to help students who suffer from financial hardship to access school life as fully as possible.

Our commitment to our SEND students’ success can be seen in the adaptive teaching practised by teachers and in the investments we have made in specialised staff such as our own speech and language therapist. Our FCJ values ensure that we are committed to inclusion. We aim to engender a sense of community and belonging, and to offer opportunities to all learners to realise their potential, including those who may have experienced previous difficulties and those who are particularly able.

This does not mean that we will treat all students in the same way, but that we will respond to each one in ways that take account of their varied life experiences and needs.

Practically, we promote this through:
EAL, SEND, HLP provision: additional support in and out of lessons
Pupil voice: ensuring that all aspects of our community have a say
Curriculum design: a broad curriculum that is reflective of our students
Staff training, including the governing body
Pastoral care: strong relationships with parents and students

What are the entry requirements?

These are the criteria we expect both internal and external students to meet:

– At least 5 GCSE passes at G4 or higher (Including Mathematics, English Literature and English Language)
– Normally a G5, G6 or G7 in the subjects you wish to study or a related subject. Entry requirements vary by subject; see our website for individual requirements.
– External students: reference from current school.
