What is life like at Capital City College Group?
Capital City College Group brings together the strengths and legacies of City and Islington College, Westminster Kingsway College and The College of Haringey, Enfield, and North East London. As one of the largest educational institutions in London, we are committed to continuing our tradition of excellence in education, training and community engagement under a unified brand.
We offer a huge range of A Levels, T Levels, vocational courses and apprenticeships, giving you the chance to shape a study programme that fits with your goals. Your learning will be enriched with work experience opportunities, tutorials and extracurricular activities designed to build the confidence, versatility and real-world skills employers and universities are looking for.
Our centres are equipped with industry-standard classrooms and workshops, well-stocked libraries, social spaces and cafés, making them lively and sociable places to study. You’ll also benefit from strong links with employers across London, careers guidance and opportunities to develop entrepreneurial and leadership skills.
Students describe life here as supportive, inspiring and full of opportunity. Many progress on to Russell Group universities, higher apprenticeships or straight into skilled careers. Whatever your pathway, you’ll leave with the knowledge, experience and independence to take your next step with confidence.
The Supported Learning departments are high quality provision where the needs of learners are met to a very high standard. We have a broad provision across five sites (Kennet West, Alexandra Centre, Enfield, Tottenham, King’s Cross) ranging from Moderate Learning Disabilities (MLD) to Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD). Learners follow bespoke programmes made up from a broad range of areas under the main headings of enterprise, work experience, employability, vocational, independence, communication, Personal and Social Development/health and functional skills. A healthy mix of non-accredited and accredited programmes ensures all learners are correctly placed after a comprehensive baseline assessment. Although learners are based at a site, many learners’ programmes will be across sites utilising the excellent facilities all sites have to offer, ensuring all programmes are aspirational and meet needs. Our Health Team form a crucial part of the curriculum at Alexandra Centre and work closely with our Teaching and Learning staff across all aspects of the learners’ programmes.

How are students supported and included?
Mainstream
At Capital City College, support is central to student life. From the moment you join, you are treated as an individual and guided to manage your studies with the independence expected at post-16, while having access to the right structures to help you succeed.
Specialist staff provide advice, guidance and mentoring, with dedicated careers and UCAS support to prepare you for university, apprenticeships or employment. There are strong links with industry, offering work placements and real-world opportunities alongside your course.
For students with disabilities or learning difficulties, the college makes adjustments to ensure full access to learning. Support is highly personalised, focusing on individual needs through tailored learning plans, in-class differentiation, assistive technologies and close collaboration between teachers, the SENDCo, parents and external specialists. The aim is to make sure every learner feels welcomed, included and supported throughout their journey.
Wellbeing is also a priority. Colleges have pastoral and mental-health leads, with open communication channels and proactive wellbeing initiatives. A wide range of extracurricular activities, student societies and volunteering opportunities reinforce identity, respect, resilience and confidence, helping students grow both academically and personally.
This whole-college approach ensures that every learner, whatever their background or need, is given the tools, encouragement and opportunities to thrive.

The Student Support Team offers excellent support to young people who have Education, Health and Care Plans across the college on a broad range of programmes, from Levels 1 to 3. This may be on a 1:1 basis, 2:1 or in group/class or a larger ratio. This support can also be around their main qualification, English and maths, social skills or other identified needs. There is a large team of support staff who work in partnership with the teaching staff to ensure the learners’ needs are met. The Support Team take responsibility for the learners’ specific individual targets that are linked directly to their Education, Health and Care Plan to ensure the outcomes are central to their learning programmes.
The Additional Learning Support Team exists to support students with specific learning needs and encourage them to assume greater control and autonomy over their own learning. At Westminster Kingsway College, the team focuses on working with students with learning difficulties ranging from challenges with maths and/or English to specific learning difficulties, which includes students with dyslexia, dyspraxia, developmental coordination disorder, dyscalculia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and autism spectrum disorder.
